Slitscan
Slitscan is a video processing technique that allows
different temporal slices coming from a video feed to be merged into a single frame,
as they happened at the same moment.
It goes beyond the usual idea of simultaneity with an exploration of space-time
without our three dimensional limited perception.
Slitscan was used in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey for the "stargate sequence".
A lot of artists and researchers implemented slitscan using photography or video techniques. You can find an exhaustive list in this page.
For us it was a starting point, the first common interest. Our research is a work in progress ...
Processing
We started experimenting with Processing environment and JMyron camera library for pixel addressing. In our first patch you can see a thin green line on a live video. The area under the green line is drawed upside in a slitscan frame.
